TWIN CITIES MARATHON
October 5, 2003 | ||||||||||||||
An "aided record" (AR) was set here by Masters runner Eddy Hellebuyck. Aided, due to the fact that it is a point to point course... albeit a very challenging one as any one who has run it can verify. Barry Brown held the previous aided record on this same course with his 1981 performance. Our guy James ran a good time with his girlfriend Londa enthusiastically cheering him on from 4 points along the course - a record in spectating ability.

Incomplete Results..... A mixup in scoring resulted in some awards being presented to slower finishers. This was okay by many of our runners who did not stay to collect their rightful places in the 10 year age group awards.

CHICAGO MARATHON
October 12, 2003
| ||||||||||||||
Perfect weather according to accounts from the media. A record time for a first time marathon by Evans Rutto. The women's winner also won in Boston last April. A successful day for Forerunner PRs with Mary Ann leading off by obliterating hers by over 9 minutes while making her first trip under 3 hours. Kevin shaved over 4 minutes and Jim over a minute off their previous bests, both qualifying for Boston. Christy gave it her best but didn't make the necessary 2:48:00 to qualify for the US Olympic Marathon trials.

25TH ANNUAL RATTLESNAKE 5 MILE October 18, 2003
This race should be on the must do list of everyone who runs our west central Florida races. With no causes or pledges and a reasonable entry fee, it's a return to runnings' halcyon days of community events, staged purely for the fun of having residents watch people race over their streets. The course includes a challenging 3/8 mile trip through an orange grove, a wooden footbridge on the campus of St Leo University, and several hundred yards across the grass of the local schoolyard. Add in several of the steepest hills in the Sunshine State and race participants, depending on point of view, have loads of fun, or pain. Probably both. 294 finishers.
