HUNTINGTONS DISEASE TRIATHLON              August 3, 2002
Key Biscayne, FL       Swim 1.5km, Bike 40km, Run 10km+

The main event in Key Biscayne this weekend was the Saturday sprint triathlon national championship, with the Olympic Distance on Sunday a race for the masses. Race personnel reportedly messed up the run distance though, with estimates of up to 3/8 mile over the 10km standard. Sandy's second place overall is her highest ever in a major triathlon. In the tough athletes division, note that overall winners John Reback and Racheal Wood both finished second overall in Saturday's sprint.

HAM SLAM 5KM       Culloden, Georgia             August 10, 2002

The metropolis of Culloden sits on top of a big ol Georgia hill. The race is out and back. The last mile is therefor….duuh…slow. The title Ham Slam refers to the town’s annual wild game shoot and cookoff, which apparently includes wild pigs. These Georgia boys are brutal! Don won his division. Again!

QUEBEC CITY MARATHON                                 August 25, 2002
Levis to Quebec City, Canada

This was the second in Nancy's quest to run six marathons in her sixtieth year. Warm weather was the order of the day along the St Lawrence River, with several runners hauled off in ambulances to be treated for severe heat exhaustion. As at Calgary in July, Nancy slowed in the final miles but won her 60+ division, making it two for two for our newest "senior master".

RED MULE 5KM                                                       August 31, 2002
McKethan Lake       Brooksville, Florida

Chuck's M50 competition was very tough on this morning at McKethan Lake, 20 miles north of Brooksville. 157 Males and 91 Females finished, most of them of high school age. Take note of 15yr old Andy Biladeau's winning time. Either this course is short, or he set another American exact age record to go along with his 15:35 winning time at Gasparilla at age 14 last February. This kid can flat out fly!

ECKERD COLLEGE 8KM XC                                August 31, 2002
Boyd Hill Pioneer Park       St Petersburg, Florida

We called this one the Rumble in the Jungle. Former Forerunners member Ray Wunderlich III, Cross Country Coach at St Petersburg's Eckerd College, invited Forerunners members to participate in a pre-season time trial cross country race. 8km for the men. 5km for the women. Three of us ran, all men. It was muddy and slippery with tight turns over wet grass and trails. It was also fun. Lot's!
