FORERUNNERS MAY 2002 RACE RESULTS

3RD ANNUAL SPARTAN SPRINT 5KM                    May 3, 2002
Pepin Rood Stadium         Tampa University           Tampa, Florida

Moving into the time slot of the Night Moves race, now defunct after sixteen years, this evening event also mimicked the Night Moves system of top ten mens’ and womens’ awards, cups to the first fifty of each, and no age groups. Consider that an "older" person could feasibly set a world record in such an event, and not get an award, and the real downside of this system becomes apparent.

10TH ANNUAL DARE TO GO BARE 5KM                May 5, 2002

Depending on your point of view, this event is or is not X-Rated. If shown on TV, they definitely would need to put in those little blurry things.

18TH ANNUAL SAFETY HARBOR SPRINTS 5KM
City Pier Park       Safety Harbor, Florida                 May 18, 2002

Masters winner Perry Small from Naples took an early lead and held on until 2-1/4 miles where our guy Steve took control. Amy, Mary Ann, and Carol were close together at the mile before Amy pulled away for the win. It appears the local Masters women win 90% of our races. Kelly, Patrick, and Erin McClenathan, Jim Rogan, and Mike Birnbaum all ran PR (personal record) times. In the gender quantity competition (number of finishers), the guys took this one, 136 to 108.

ARMED FORCES DAY 5KM                                       May 18, 2002
MOSI Museum            Tampa, Florida

For some odd reason, probably ignorance of the local running schedule, this race elected to go head to head on the same day as the popular Safety Harbor Sprints. Chuck says the course had some nice hills, but no age division awards. Duhhh!
