MAX BAYNE 1/2 MARATHON & 5KM                   April 1, 2007
Ft Desoto Park       St Petersburg, Florida

This 30th edition of the former Suncoast RC "Mini Marathon", was moved from it's usual early January slot to a less crowded calendar spot to attract more participants. Resulting attendance hence almost doubled from 2006.
Race director Mike Weiss won the men's race, while long ago Forerunners member Karol Withrow, age 41, continued her impressive return to the running scene, convincingly leading all of the women. 5th place overall, Karen Collins, was awarded first Master. Ken Barry took over nine minutes off his 2004 time here, and was our only PR participant!
94 males and 84 females finished on this warm and mildly windy morning.

FOOLS RUN 50 MILE, 50KM & 15 MILE TRAIL RUNS
Croom Hiking Trail       Brooksville, Florida            April 7, 2007

We had no one from our club in the "Fools Run" 50 mile premier race. Some of the male participants in the ultra events had clever additions to thier given names in quotations... such as "Let it Rip" Ripka (50mi) and P F "Flyer" (50km) winner.
Suzanne was the sixth woman and eleventh runner to cross the finish line in the "I'm No Fool Run" 50KM.
There were 28 male and 13 female finishers in the 50 mile.
There were 26 male and 14 female finishers in the 50 km.
There were 30 male and 28 female finishers in the 15 mile.

26TH ANNUAL FLATLANDERS CHALLENGE 10KM
Brooksville, Florida                                                        April 7 2007

A small band of Forerunners tried out the new course with a companion 5Km race added this year.
James did not seem to be hampered by the hill challenge. Kit did seem to be ... finishing a distant second to women's leader Laura Drake, who has moved and trains there now. Christine, who has been asking where to get some real hill training before her first Boston marathon, said this is a definite "go do it again next year" race.
There were 54 men and 34 women finishers in the 10Km and were 27 men and 29 women finishers in the 5Km.
No Forerunners ran the 5Km.

111TH BOSTON AA MARATHON                         April 16, 2007
Hopkinton to Boston, Massachusetts

Robert Cheruiyot defended his title but ran seven minutes slower than his last year's course record performance. This was his third win!
First time winner Lidiya Grigoryeva threw in her fastest miles at the end, running a 1:17:15 half followed by a 1:12:03 second half! Times were slow for all on this windy, cold and rainy day. 98% of those who entered ran and finished. There was talk of cancelling the event due to a Nor'easter blowing through. The traditional noon start was abandoned on the 111th running of the marathon for several reasons. One was the hot weather in recent years!
Mother Nature was perhaps telling us to not mess with tradition. A wave system was again used with a new start time of 10:30AM for runners who qualified with a time 3:30:00 or slower and 10:00AM for the faster qualifiers.
Our numbers were up this year reporting twenty three finishers. As is our custom, we are reporting some times of people who are not on the team but were on the scene with team members.
Bess was the only one to PR. She was joined in requalifying by Carol, Michelle, Ginger, Michael, Joe and Jon Kieffer.
There were 12,373 male and 7,975 female finishers.

ST ANTHONY'S TRIATHLON                                 April 29, 2007
Vinoy Park       St Petersburg, Florida

The heat returned to St Petersburg for this popular triathlon, which draws competitors from all over the American continent and overseas. Tampa Bay was calm for the swim. Included in our results are several triathletes (noted with asterisk) who, while not yet members, have recently participated in our track workouts and/or long runs. Kristine, Laure, and Claudia (all F40-44) were 1-2-3 in the run portion. Jonathan and Tom did the Boston Marathon to St A's double whammy. Our Forerunners water station was very busy and fun too. Thank you to all who came out to help and cheer.
Sadly, for the second time in three years, a participant died during this event. The message for us all here is profound. Be trained, be fit, gain experience in short events before moving on to more demanding ones, and be alert, safe and careful in our athletic endeavors.
There were 2142 men and 1231 women who completed the entire event. Several others particpated as a member of a relay.
