CHASCO RALLY TO REMEMBER 5KM & 10KM
Starkey Park       New Port Richey, Florida              April 1, 2006

Something for everyone in this extravaganza of events. Not included in our report are the inline skate and off road bike races. Apparently there was no interest in an inline skate off road event! Marge, missing from track, did the 5Km race up in her work territory. New to the track scene, Kelly, was Third woman!
Kit and Beth were 1-2 women (as well as 5–6 overall) in the 10Km!
42 male, 50+ female finishers in the 5KM (top 50 recorded).
7 male, 15 female finishers in the 10KM.

GOOD LIFE GAMES TRACK & FIELD                     April 1, 2006
Clearwater HS       Clearwater, Florida

Duncan won gold in the three "distance" events. In the sprints, he knew he was in trouble when the competitor in the next lane got out his starting blocks! It was a long day with either too much or too little time between events.
Participation was good enough to require several heats in most events.

13TH ANNUAL SEMINOLE STAMPEDE 5KM & 10KM
Walsingham Park       Largo, Florida                        April 8, 2006

We had no club participation in the 5KM.
Debra is on a tear - winning her second race, this time the 10KM!
Duncan was originally credited as second overall and first Master at age 63. He was misdirected on the course .. a shorter way around the circle and felt terrible about it. Even called the third place guy and switched with him but retains Masters. Oh yeah, he also asked us to add a minute to his time to make amends. These things happen!
New mom, Jennifer, won her age group as did Pam.
Kyle won the mile!
54 male, 74 female finishers in the 5KM.
29 male, 26 female finishers in the 10KM.

15TH HARE RACING EXPERIENCE 5KM & 10KM
Causeway       Tampa, Florida                                     April 15, 2006

Carol, Ken and Murph were in the top ten and
Kelly and Christine PR'd in the 10KM!
David Meri and Carolyn both competed in the 5KM after not racing for some time. Pam and Hunter stay in race mode most of the time ... much to local race directors delight. Lots of goodies. Ken Barry dropped out with a sore hamstring but said he got his money's worth with the food he consumed!
104 male, 70 female finishers in the 10KM.
105 male, 112 female finishers in the 5KM.
Shannon McClenathan won the kids race ... not sure how far it was as her time was 2:29!

ESCAPE FROM FT DESOTO TRIATHLON
Swim .5, Bike 10. Run 3.4 MI                                   April 15, 2006

Triathlon season is upon us once again! The male winner defended his title from last year but Christina Noordstar chose to participate at Boston this year instead of defending hers. The added .4 mile run from the swim to the bike made the T1 transition times noticeably slower compared to last year.
Jeanne Lesniak who is not running or biking but is swimming just fine dropped out after a 16:25 performance good for third in the age group at that point.
Ian was first "first timer". Flora Cook signed up to be a first timer but came down with a terrible chest cold and decided it was smarter to be a "first timer" some other time!
Beth and Bill were scored in the next higher age group as both their "real" ages end in 9 and will end in 0 this year. There is a special rule in triathlons that provide for this. Beth would have been 12th in 35-39 age group and Bill would have beaten all but one guy 59 and older had the rule not been written!
Shannon got out there again after a long absence from the tri sport fun. Tim put away his volunteer shirt for the day and was very pleased with his run time. It was actually three minutes faster than shown. He was penalized with a "placement" violation .. he's still not sure what was out of place but decided not to challenge it since he wouldn't have "placed" in his age group with his actual twentyfour minute run! Kit lost two minutes on the bike due to a drafting violation.
There were 727 finishers.

110TH BOSTON AA MARATHON                         April 17, 2006
Hopkinton to Boston, Massachusetts

The winner broke the men's course record set by Cosmas N'Deti in 1994 by one second. On the women's side, only ten seconds separated 1-2 making a great finish photo.
A third wave was introduced with a start time of 12:30PM for runners who qualified with a time 3:30:00 or slower. This made the timing devices along the course and at the finish meaningless to many of the runners, especially those in the third wave. It appeared that 80-yr. old Emery did not complete the event as his splits stop at 35KM. He did finish. But his actual time will forever be a mystery.
On the positive side of the new wave, how cool it must have been for runners in the first bin of this race. Imagine starting in the Boston marathon without a crowd ahead of you! Our elite women have experienced that, since the qualifying women got their own start, but they were on their own until the main race caught them.
Our big news is that we did not get a Masters Women's team to the start line this year. We tried and registered one. But due to various circumstances such as injury, family illness and just plain calendar conflict with Patriots Day just after Easter Sunday, Anna was our only eligible team member who ran. She brought her family along and they all had a great time.
Congrats to the San Luis Distance club Masters Women who won with a time of 9:44:13/3:07:38-3:10:03-3:26:32. Open Women winners were the B.A.A. with a time of 8:19:57/2:37:01-2:43:19-2:59:57.
Our Men's Masters team was 42nd with David, Tony and Joe scoring.
As is our custom, we are reporting some times of people who are not on the team but were on the scene with team members.
Tony and Rich were so serious about their hill training that they actually flew into beantown a few times over the past weeks to experience the actual Newton hills ... their efforts paid off as they ran a negative split ... rarely done in this race!
Results are shown as chip time along with pace per mile, "R" indicates the time is a requalifier for next years Boston. R* indicates requalified and a new PR. Michael and Tony did that!
A second section shows clock time followed by the time it took the runner to get to the start line after the gun was fired.
There were 12,063 male and 7,625 female finishers.

NIGHT MOVES 5KM                                                  April 21, 2006
Centennial Park     Ybor City      Tampa Florida

The McClenathans, McCanns and Bumbuls raced on this Friday evening. Only the top 100 men and women recorded. No age groups were awarded.
This party race usually draws a pretty big crowd. If you were not in the top 100 and would like us to report the time on your watch, let us know and we will add your performance to our results.

Raymond James Stadium      Tampa, Florida

The top 100 of each gender was recorded. Let us know your time if you ran but are not listed and would to be reported here. We know Christine ran as preregistered and got no t-shirt while others signing up that day did. Not sure how that happened ... but doesn't seem right.

ST ANTHONY'S TRIATHLON                                 April 30, 2006
Vinoy Park       St Petersburg, Florida

A beautiful event day despite wind that made large swells on the water surface for the swim, there were dry roads and mild temperatures for the most of the athletes in the first waves. That would be the elites and men's age group competitors. Later that morning the winds made for a very tough swim and bike but the strong finishers prevailed over the elements.
The women's winner defended her title and also cut almost two minutes from her previous win.
Both Ian and Beth have incorrect splits in the official results. Ian says it has something to do with wearing a personal chip back into transition that caused the problem. Will fill in Ian's corrected information when it becomes available.
Our Forerunners water station was very busy and fun too. A big Thank you to all who came out to help!
