FORERUNNERS FEBRUARY 2003 RACE RESULTS
STRIDE AGAINST TOBACCO 5KM
February 1, 2003 |
Seems everyone's aways picking on the tobacco users. How about picking on race directors who ignore the technical aspects of our sport? How about certifying the distance of courses like this, and making sure that an 80 yr old isn't lumped in to a group called 70+ for recognition. 117 finishers. |

5TH ANNUAL OCALA MARATHON & 1/2 MARATHON
Forerunners were an impressive force on this cool morning in Florida's horse country. Kim won the marathon for the fourth time, while Amy finished second overall on the hilly central Florida course. Christy led all the women in the half marathon. Steve PR'd in the marathon at age 46, and John and Mary both qualified for Boston, running their first marathons in several years. |

TROPICAL MARATHON Miami, Florida February 2, 2003 |
Big prize money brought in the stars for this well directed first time marathon. Kenyan David Ruto outsprinted Brazil's Otavio Dos Santos Pinheiro to win by two seconds. Twenty seconds back in third place was Kiplimo Rono of Kenya in 2:12:44. In the women's race, two women from Belarus ran side by side with Volga Yudziankova pulling away in the final 5km to win by twenty seconds in 2:40:23. The men's winning time is thought to be the fastest ever run in Florida. Our Jim Rogan scored a 26 minute PR in his third marathon. |

4TH ANNUAL GULF BEACHES MARATHON, TWO PERSON RELAY, & 10KM
Newlyweds Mike and Sandy Ferreira both were second overall in the marathon. Lisa Valentine held back on this warm, humid, and windy morning, and won for the second straight year. Pembroke Pines training buddy, Jimmy Villalobus, passed Mike in the 25th mile for the win in his second ever marathon, and first trip under 3 hours. Chip and Mary Ann teamed up to win the mixed masters relay division. In the 10km, Stephanie and Mary both ran their first races since giving birth to sons late in 2002. |
