FORERUNNERS JANUARY 2007 RACE RESULTS

DISNEY 1/2 MARATHON                                       January 6, 2007
Epcot Center       Buena Vista, Florida

Melissa White from Rochester, Michigan defended her title from last year on an unseasonally warm day.
Ernie was our only "Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge" guy this year and did very well on the strategy he and Coach Joe mapped out for the weekend.

DISNEY MARATHON                                              January 7, 2007
Epcot Center        Buena Vista, Florida

On a warm day, the male winner claimed his fifth win at Disney. The winning female was a first timer at the distance.
Coach Joe was honored again this year as an official member of Florida's Finest team. Well guess what – the Disney curse continues. This year he developed cellulitis about a week before the event. He ran conservativly (a relative term here) winning his age group and learning first hand why it is not a good idea to run when you are on antibiotics ...dead legs - and in his case, destroyed an already hurting hamstring! Ernie Glode had the race of the day as he PR'd for the distance after his easy (another relative term) half the day prior.

ARA 20 MILE      San Marcos, Texas                    January 7, 2007

Brenda reports BIG hills ... must be something to it coming from a gal who is looking to do the Ride the Rockies cycling event again this June! Also got a new PR by running a nonstandard distance race.
There were 560 men and 416 woman finishers.

ST PETE BEACH CLASSIC 5KM & 10KM      January 13, 2007
County Beach Park       St Pete Bch, Florida

The event got great weather this year and the race directors were very happy about that! The path was, as usual, well worn to the awards stand by our ranks. Ali won the 5 KM race and came in third overall on the heels of the second place male! 48 year old Debra was overall Masters winner. Amy was entered. Instead of wearing her chip in the usual place on either shoe, she chose to put it in her running bra and her finish time is unknown. Cindy ran her first race after a long sebatical. Jim continued his PR trend and Mark Gable his fitness improvement post heart surgery.
In the 10KM, Melanie was second woman overall. Carol and Anna shaved more time from their PR's and erika PR'd by completing her first 10K. Karen actually stopped and intended to drop out of the race. She chose the spot where Stephanie Bergen was spectating from ... big mistake if she really wanted to stop. You see, Stephanie knows that Forerunners don't let Forerunners quit unless there's a really good reason!
198 male, 282 female finishers in the 5KM.
325 male, 255 female finishers in the 10KM.

DAILY NEWS HALF MARATHON                    January 21, 2007
Cambier Park       Naples, Florida

The men's winner is new to the longer distances and doing well as he won the Rocket City Marathon last month ... his first time at the distance. The woman's winner is the first American in some years and finished second last year.
A fine showing from Forerunners and a few who sometimes train with us at this always fun and prestigious event.

MIAMI MARATHON & HALF                             January 28, 2007

Weather conditions - the pre-race downpour soaked many runners. It was 76 degrees at the 6:00AM start of both races rising another ten degrees a few hours later. Melanie completed her first marathon in the much sought after sub3 hour time and was fifth woman ... WOW!
