NEW YORK CITY MARATHON                        November 3, 2002

Amy and Walt ran automatic NYC requalifying times. Mike qualified for Boston. Jim cruised along after being hampered by the crowd for the first ten miles. David's jets shut down in Manhattan. Steve says it was hilly and cold. Chris was sightseeing. Dan….well…dang, he missed his Boston Q time by less than four minutes. 30,000 ran this monster marathon.

2ND FINISH AT THE 50 3MI                             November 6, 2002
Raymond James Stadium       Tampa, Florida

This Wednesday night event included a 600 yd cross-country segment in the unlighted woods of Al Lopez park. Runners finished inside RJF stadium at the 50yd line. In a mass of confusion, some of the lead runners somehow entered the stadium through the wrong tunnel at the finish, changing their race from 3 miles to 2.9 miles. Preliminary Results...until complete data is available.

26TH ANNUAL LAKE TO LAKE 10KM & 5KM
Lake Mirror     Downtown Lakeland, FL            November 9, 2002

Our two Jim's took it out hard and were never challenged on this hilly course around the picturesque lake neighborhoods south of downtown Lakeland. With an excellent multi-year certified distance course, reasonable entry fee (no charities), and age group awards, this is a race made for runners and is a candidate for the best 10km event available in the Tampa Bay radius. Congratulations to Jim B on his first ever overall win, after a multitude of second places.

TAKE FITNESS TO HEART WOMEN'S 5KM
University of Tampa     Tampa, Florida               November 9, 2002

Put a little money out there, in this case 800 smackers, and fast people show up who seldom run on the roads. Winner Tara Quinn is a 2002 USF graduate who finished second in the NCAA Division 1, 10,000-meter championships last spring. 46yr old Mary Ann Protz was the overall Masters winner. 330 finished this race for women only.
