USF TWILIGHT 5KM                                              August 15, 2003
USF Track Stadium      Tampa, Florida

This event has become a high school cross-country summer fitness test, with 107 boys and 81 girls in the 13-17 age groups gobbling up a huge percentage of the top finishes. 17yr old Laura Bowerman's winning time ties the exact age 17 American Record, except it doesn't count because the course used is not a certified distance. Bummer!

21ST ANNUAL CORNFEST 10KM                     August 16, 2003

With three retched hills, this is not a fast course. Celia used her strong bike quads to overtake the lead woman in the final 1/4 mile for the overall win. Anthony won his 50-59 age division. Way to go for our Sault Ste Maria Canada Forerunners.

FORERUNNERS INTRAMURAL TRACK RACE #3
800 METERS    August 19, 2003 (St Petersburg & Sault Ste Marie)                 August 20 (Tampa & Clearwater)

Someone asked why we do these summer track races. The answer is, we ARE Forerunners TRACK club. Where else can we find the opportunity to run an evening 800 meters on the track, just like the big kids on TV? Everyone smoked this thing, albeit at their own version of the term.

PICNIC ISLAND #3 3 MILES                               August 22, 2003
Picnic Island       Tampa, Florida

373 finished this Friday evening obstacle course, the last of a three race summer series. Included in the obstacles that runners had no choice but to surmount, was a section of running in the waters of Tampa Bay. Attendance grew for each of the three races as the word of fun spread, and promoters responded by promising expansion to four races next summer.

COCA COLA SPRINT TRIATHLON #6             August 30, 2003
Swim 1/2 mi, Bike 18 mi, Run 3.1mi                  Nassau, Bahamas

To do this triathlon, participants first had to board a cruise ship in Miami. Lenore won her first race in her new division. Ginger Herring survived the swim, but never made it to the finish line. John Paul returned to the triathlon wars after six weeks off to grow new skin from a couple road slides. We do know how to have fun.
