FORERUNNERS MAY 2004 RACE RESULTS

MAY DAY 5KM                                                                 May 1, 2004
Old Hyde Park Village       Tampa, Florida

Fast race on a certified course. Jim Rogan ran his fastest ever at the distance and it took a sub 16:30 for 3rd in his age group - that's the way it goes sometimes! Steve was 10th with 16:32. Lisa is back in the 18s with Karen exactly one minute behind setting yet another PR. Anna and Wes also lowered their personal records.
A good time was had by all even coach who got knocked down at the start and Maria who won the grand prize 7 day cruise after choosing not to run even though she was registered.
333 male, 372 female finishers.

TEMPLE TERRACE 10KM                                            May 8, 2004
Temple Terrace, Florida

Directors of this race decided to re-invent the age group system. Don Arscott would have been 2nd in the traditional 45-49 (5 year) age group, but turned out to be 6th after letting those 50-55 year olds get by him in the created 46-55 ten year age category. All our other guys fared well, no matter which system was applied.

SAFETY HARBOR SPRINTS 5KM                           May 15, 2004
Safety Harbor, Florida

Amy, Shannon, Jim and Emery represented us well. Too bad this event was held on the same day as the new Carillon race. An earlier start and better proximity to some of our Tampa runners made them decide on this established event. Hopefully, next year these events will not be in conflict.

19TH ANNUAL MAD BEACH MAD DOG TRIATHLON
Madeira Beach, Florida
Swim .5 mi, Bike 15 mi, Run 3.1mi                            May 16, 2004

Our gang of triathletes did well in the competition. This year, it was Bernie Brown who graduated to the sprint triathlon after a successful debut at the Meek & Mighty.
Sandy & Mike Ferreira were supposed to participate, but Mike was injured while competing in a duathlon near their south Florida address before their planned travel to St Pete. It seems the police officer waved a SUV through the intersection as Mike approached at 25MPH. The driver stopped in the intersection and Mike went endo on top of the car with feet still in the pedals. Helmet broken - collarbone not broken, but is sticking up at an odd angle.
That's why they never showed at Mad Beach. Please be careful out there on those bikes!

HOUND DOG DASH 5KM                                           May 22, 2004
Downtown Tampa, Florida

Jim was 1st. Lisa was also 1st woman and 2nd finisher overall! This was the 2nd celebration of Elvis run. The Race director was a fan and this was his dream. He even started the race with the title song ... 3-2-1 "you ain't nothing but a hound dog". A fun workout, $10 entry fee, but none of the usual race amenities such as finish cards. Top 3 got awards.
There were about 80 finishers.

BAYSHORE MARATHON                                           May 29, 2004

Weather conditions for Tony, one of our tough Canadian guys, must have been better than Boston 2003 where we last saw him. He trains through the winter in weather so cold we can't even imagine...

Lenore is our only entrant in this event and parlayed the trip into a family visit. A great time management technique that all serious athletes employ!
