SARASOTA MARATHON & HALF                        March 7, 2007
Ringling Museum      Sarasota, Florida

Former high school Forerunner Mike Aldrink won this event on a cool Florida morning. Earl Smith lopped big minutes off his PR in his second marathon of the year. Suzanne O'neal gave Boston qualifying her third try in five weeks earning at the very least, an A+ for effort.
345 male, 210 female finishers in the marathon.
647 male, 884 female finishers in the half. Looks like the female gender is taking over the races. C'mon guys. Don't take it lying down.

30TH ANNUAL GATE RIVER RUN 15KM           March 10, 2007
Alltel Stadium      Jacksonville, Florida

Deena Kastor was the first to cross the finish line with the women's "equalizer" five minute head start and earned the $5000 bonus. Meb Keflezighi ran one second faster than his time last year and was second finisher given the five minute handicap. The handicap is based on US records for men and women for the distance. Deena set the women's in 2003.
Suzanne and Brenda traveled to get in on the 30 year celebration festivities.
There were 11,326 finishers.

2007 NAT'L SCHOLASTIC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
New Balance Track & Field Center, Armory
New York City                                                         March 9-11, 2007

Ali earned a trip to run in this prestigious event where records are still held by the likes of Suzy Favor, Mary Decker and Lynn Jennings.
It was a great experience for her with tough competition. Her place in the heat is shown below followed by overall standings of the combined heats.
On Friday, she lost count of her laps (8 to the mile), and may have broken 18:00 had she known to kick in to the finish. On Sunday, in the mile, she got tangled up with a competitor and they both fell and got up to finish.

BAY TO BAY 12KM                                                 March 18, 2007
West end of 1st Ave S to the Pier      St Petersburg, Florida

A fine cool morning for running with the sun traditionally making those who forgot sunglasses think about that as they started the trek across the city. Ah yes, the race that runners love to hate. Most of them come back for more every year.
Lee and Christa defended their titles and improved their times from last year. Melanie was second woman by a half a minute. Karol Withrow who reappeared in the racing scene at Gasparilla 15K was first Master. Lots of first in age groups including Ali who was running with some friends just fast enough to finish ahead of one of their teachers! Carol, Maria, Duncan, Bill and Joe all won theirs as well.
We have taken the liberty of correcting a few obvious coding errors in the age group standings. Jon Docs was listed in the preliminary results as second 40-44 woman. His rightful place is fifth 40-44 male. That moves John Glasscock to 14th place and Karen, Lauren, Kim and Sue up one place. Hunter was listed as 8 years old by mistake. He is 10 and placed third in the 10-14 age division.
Check out all the PRs. Jim McDannel took eighteen minutes off his!
416 male, 322 female finishers.
