FORERUNNERS FEBRUARY 2005 RACE RESULTS

BANK OF AMERICA GASPARILLA 15KM     February 5, 2005
Tampa, Florida

Bank of America, the major sponsor for the weekend awards prize money for the main event on each day. The 15KM race offers $5000 to the top five residents of the five county area. Christy, a past winner of the marathon ran under an hour and was just one place out of the money.
Albert was disappointed that his sub hour performance initially went unrecorded due to a mixup with the use of his personal chip. It worked fine at the expo when he checked it, but not on race day. Race director Susan Harmeling was able to find his time and was glad to resolve the glitch in the otherwise excellent finish system.
Check out all the PRs ... many are a result of help from team mates and just plain good training.
There were 2,046 male, and 1,575 female finishers.

BANK OF AMERICA GASPARILLA 5KM       February 5, 2005
Tampa, Florida

Participating in the Jeep Liberty Challege, David Meri (7th), Jon Kieffer (28th), Chuck McCann (55th) and Chris Coleman (87th) warmed up for their half marathon on Sunday by running both races. Jon managed to place in the top of his age group for every event! Don Henderson, age 46 was the winner with a cumulative time of 2:31:49. No one actually wins a Jeep or a PT Cruiser, but all who participate come away with a new appreciation of each race distance and the fitness required to meet the challenge and the top ten men and women get a special award.
Meanwhile, new members, Kathy Horn and Nung Bedell walked with the kids and Cliff, Allison and Londa PR'd!
There were 2,787 male, and 3,353 female finishers.

BANK OF AMERICA MARATHON                    February 6, 2005
Tampa, Florida

Almost the entire purse was awarded to Masters competetors. All top five women were 40 or older and therefor received both open and masters money. Both Mary Ann and Lisa were in the top ten. Lisa was sixth, just out of the money... but still managed her usual smile. The men's winner was the only open runner in the top seven. Bank of America built "it" for them and as designed, the Masters racers came to collect!
Kristine, one year out of being a master slashed over 16 minutes from her previous best and came breezing by Coach in the last mile all perky...
Ian bettered his time in his third 2:50 something marathon in five weeks with a halfathon run in Miami two weeks ago. Bruce did his continuous workout last Wednesday at 8:50 pace and that's exactly how he did it on race day for a new PR. Fr. Ken held Mass on Sunday evening and experienced a little muscle soreness after finishing his first ever marathon. This stuff really works!
678 men, and 357 women finished.

2ND FLORIDA CHALLENGE TRAIL 21KM
Alafia River Park       Lithia, Florida                 February 20, 2005

No age group awards for this event. A natural Florida setting with challenges, what could be more rewarding than that?
Kristine held off a 26 yr old for 2nd woman who received the same time. Kit got her friend Duncan Cameron to try this event even though she swore he would never agree to it.
There were 94 male, and 71 female finishers.
